At the beginning of the semester Robin began training up LWT/BI students in the art and skill of using the sewing machine. The vision is to equip these young people with a skill that could sustain them in life and ministry. Donated machines, thread, scissors, and yards of material let the training begin.
Twice a week these students meet and learn to craft various items. After just a few weeks, the machine is not as scary, and useful and fun items begin to take shape.
As soon as the students gained a level of ability, they began to come to class with little repair and alteration projects for fellow students.
At the end of the first semester, Robin shares a few words of encouragement at a graduation ceremony and awards certificates of completion. Each student also receives an individual gift. One student was selected to receive the actual sewing machine she learned on.
Robin has already begun a second semester group, this time with a few interested boy students. An opportunity to use their sewing skills for pay has already come about………….but that’s another story.
