Not everyone can say they have an active volcano in their backyard, but we can. This morning many heard the rumble and watched as the ash plum produced by our neighborhood volcano ascended miles into the sky .
Actually there are two volcano (s), the larger silent one is the Santa Maria, and the smaller the Santiaguito. The smaller but scrappy volcano is active daily, but the rumble heard today was unusual. Thankfully the prevailing winds have changed and the ash cloud will not settle on us and our city as had been the case for the last few weeks.
There is a lot of raw and powerful landscape here in Guatemala that presents some unique METAR notations not commonly seen……………….but that’s another (pilot) story.
