“God uses men who are weak and feeble enough to lean on him.” — Hudson Taylor.
Taylor was known for his sensitivity to Chinese culture and zeal for evangelism. Taylor spent 51 years in China. The society that he began was responsible for bringing over 800 missionaries to the country who began 125 schools and directly resulted in 18,000 Christian conversions, as well as the establishment of more than 300 stations of work with more than 500 local helpers in all eighteen provinces.
For about two weeks now, I have been laying low, literally. My attempt to lift a piece of equipment in the hangar resulted in a pretty good pull, pinch, or strain to my lower back. Trying to tough-it-out only made it worse, until I could no longer walk upright. Determined to stop the cycle of partial healing and re-injury, I purposed to keep off my back until restored.
The first day proved easy to lay still. As another day passed, it was increasingly more of a trial, to keep off my aching back. My mind kept updating the running list of tasks that were not getting accomplished. Soon I realized that I had buried myself with worry. My “zeal”, was cooling in the shadow of my frustration.
Then this came to mind………..
And He said to me, (The words of Jesus) “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (Paul’s response) Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Cor 12:9 NKJV)
As I recognize my limitations, I want to depend more on God for my effectiveness rather than on my own energy, effort, or talent.
