Special Guatemala Update- Behind The Scenes

A testimony:
The day before Guatemala was locked down, Robin and I were in the north near the Peten-region in a city called Coban. We were surveying the airstrip there, walking and praying over the location as a possible SGSP Aviation mission base. The U.S. embassy notifies expats via text message that country wide closures were imminent. We hurriedly made the 8-hour drive and arrived back to our home base before sunset when the roadblocks went up. Blockades are a fact of life in Guatemala, and we are accustomed to their temporary nature and shift plans accordingly.

Weeks before the protests began, the Spirit of the Lord had been speaking to us to prepare by replacing tires on ministry vehicles and filling propane tanks. We did not question it. For many months we had planned to visit Coban and spend a few days looking over the airfield and praying over the location as a possible 2nd SGSP mission base. After a day and a half, both Robin and I were Spirit-led to return home earlier than planned. We made it home just ahead of the lockdowns. We had no expectations of the nature or length blockades and just took it in stride.

On day 2, an awareness came over us that we should fill our vehicle tanks and get extra for the generator, and even lay in some extra food. On Sunday, day 7 of the blockades, with temporary access to the airfield, we completed a few flights to Guatemala City. Normally I would not fill the aircraft tanks, purchasing just enough fuel to have half tanks (40 gallons of AVGAS) available when I landed back at our home base. A strong awareness caused me to fill tanks to capacity. The following Monday came the announcement that aviation fuel had run out and was no longer available in the country.
Listening and obeying the Spirit of the Lord gleaned: propane tanks filled and standing by before the supply chain was disrupted, vehicles maintained and full of fuel before supplies ran out, aircraft fueled to near full the day before supplies failed. SGSP Aviation (missionaries Chuck & Robin) stand ready to serve the ministries, missionaries, and people of Guatemala with the resources gathered in, as directed by God’s Spirit.
